Nissan Leaf 2018-2025 (ZE1) Owner's Manual : Heater and air conditioner (automatic)
WARNING
- The advanced air conditioning cooling function in your Nissan Leaf operates exclusively when the power switch is in the fully active ON position or when the green READY to drive indicator light is illuminated on the instrument cluster.
- Never leave children, vulnerable adults, or individuals who normally require the physical assistance of others unattended inside your vehicle.
Domestic pets and animals should also never be left alone under any circumstances, even for a brief moment.
Unattended cabin occupants could accidentally injure themselves or others by inadvertently activating switches, shifting gears, or overriding electrical systems. Furthermore, during hot and sunny weather conditions, the ambient internal temperature inside a closed cabin can skyrocket within minutes, quickly becoming high enough to cause severe, irreversible heat stroke or possibly fatal injuries to humans and animals alike.
- Avoid utilizing the internal air recirculation mode for extended periods of time, as continuous recirculation prevents fresh air exchange, causing the cabin atmosphere to become stale and leading to rapid window fogging that compromises driving visibility.
NOTE:
- Various environmental odors originating from both inside and outside the vehicle can gradually accumulate within the air conditioner unit components over time. These accumulated micro-particles can then enter the passenger compartment through the air vents when the climate control system is first turned on.
- When parking your Nissan Leaf for an extended duration, adjust the heater or air conditioner controls to completely deactivate the air recirculation mode, forcing the air door to stay open. This allows fresh outdoor air to circulate naturally into the passenger compartment, significantly reducing the build-up of stale odors inside the vehicle.
The integrated automatic climate control system (including both the heater and air conditioning compressor functions) is engineered to operate fully when the vehicle powertrain is active and the READY to drive indicator light is illuminated. However, a specific exception applies during high-voltage charging; you can operate the complete climate control system while plugged in, provided the vehicle power switch is rotated into the active ON position.
The climate control fan, heat pump loop, and cabin air conditioning can be activated through several convenient methods: manually using the central dashboard interface, automatically by programming the integrated climate timer function, or remotely via the specialized companion smartphone app using the remote climate control system function.
These diverse climate options operate smoothly under the following precise parameters and matrix conditions.
*1: The climate control system will only initiate prior to driving if active high-voltage charging is currently being performed by the vehicle. Once the high-voltage battery charging cycle is complete, the cabin pre-conditioning will continue to run normally, provided the vehicle remains physically connected to the EVSE (Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment) charging station cable.
*2: Feature availability is constrained exclusively to vehicle models equipped with the factory Navigation System upgrade package.
NOTE:
- A distinct series of mechanical clicks and electronic damper operation sounds may be heard from behind the dashboard assembly immediately after triggering the climate control system ON or OFF. This structural resetting of the air blend doors is normal operation and does not represent an system malfunction.
- The high-voltage A/C compressor unit and the front motor cooling fan may suddenly engage and start to operate at high speed during a normal battery charging session. This automatic thermal regulation is designed to protect electrical hardware and is not a malfunction.
- Atmospheric moisture condensation naturally forms inside the air conditioning evaporator unit when the cooling system is running. This condensation is safely channeled away and discharged onto the pavement underneath your vehicle. Discovering small puddles or traces of clear water on the ground after parking is therefore completely normal.
Clear water may continuously drip underneath the chassis floor panel whenever the active climate control system is running to manage internal humidity levels.
