Nissan Leaf 2018-2025 (ZE1) Owner's Manual : Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC) (for vehicles without ProPILOT Assist)
WARNING
Failure to follow these safety warnings and operational instructions regarding the Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC) system could lead to a loss of vehicle control, resulting in serious injury or death.
- The ICC system is designed strictly as a driving aid to assist the operator; it is not a collision warning, autonomous emergency braking, or collision avoidance device. It remains the sole responsibility of the driver to maintain full situational awareness, drive safely, and remain in complete control of the Nissan Leaf at all times.
- Always monitor and obey all posted speed limits, and never set your cruise control speed above the legal limit.
- Maintain a high level of vigilance and attentiveness whenever the ICC system is engaged.
Thoroughly read and understand the detailed operations in your Owner's Manual before attempting to use the ICC system. To ensure your safety, do not rely on this technology to prevent accidents or to manage the speed of your Nissan Leaf during hazardous or emergency driving scenarios.
Only activate the ICC system when environmental, road, and traffic conditions are appropriate and safe for cruise control usage.
- In the conventional (fixed speed) cruise control mode, the system will not provide a warning chime or automatic braking if you approach the vehicle ahead too rapidly. You must pay special attention to the gap between your vehicle and traffic ahead to avoid a potential rear-end collision.
For vehicles equipped with ProPILOT Assist technology, please refer to the "ProPILOT Assist" section of your manual for specific operational guidance.
The Intelligent Cruise Control system in your Nissan Leaf is engineered to maintain a driver-selected distance from the vehicle directly in front of you across a speed range of 0 to 90 mph (0 to 144 km/h), up to your pre-set maximum speed. You may customize your cruising speed to any setting between 20 to 90 mph (32 to 144 km/h).
When the road ahead is clear of slower-moving traffic, the Nissan Leaf will maintain the constant speed you have selected.
The ICC system provides the flexibility to operate in one of two distinct cruise control modes:
- Vehicle-to-vehicle distance control mode: This mode automatically adjusts your speed to maintain a safe, driver-selected distance between the Nissan Leaf and the vehicle preceding you, up to your set speed limit.
- Conventional (fixed speed) cruise control mode: This mode maintains your vehicle at a steady, preset speed regardless of other traffic, operating similarly to traditional cruise control systems.
Use the ICC switch A to toggle between the vehicle-to-vehicle distance control mode and the conventional (fixed speed) cruise control mode.
Please note that once a specific control mode is active, you cannot switch directly to the alternative mode while driving. To change your selection, you must first push the ICC switch A to deactivate the system entirely. Once off, press the ICC switch A again to reactivate it and choose your preferred cruise control mode.
Always verify your selected mode by checking the status information displayed on the Nissan Leaf vehicle information screen.
How to select the cruise control mode
Selecting the vehicle-to-vehicle distance control mode: To activate the distance-sensing mode (indicated as 1), simply perform a quick push and release of the ICC switch A.
Selecting the conventional (fixed speed) cruise control mode: To engage the traditional fixed-speed cruise control mode (indicated as 2), press and hold the ICC switch A for longer than approximately 1.5 seconds.
