Nissan Leaf 2018-2025 (ZE1) Owner's Manual : Audible reminders

Brake pad wear warning

Your disc brake pads are engineered with audible wear indicators. When a brake pad has reached its service limit and requires replacement, it will emit a distinct high-pitched scraping noise while the vehicle is in motion.

Initially, this sound may only be audible when you apply pressure to the brake pedal.

As the pad wears further, the scraping sound will become constant, even when the brake pedal is not depressed. If you hear this warning sound, have the brake system inspected at your earliest convenience.

Electric shift control system reminder chime

For your safety, if an incorrect shift maneuver is attempted, the system will trigger an audible chime. Depending on the specific driving conditions, the system will either cancel the requested operation or automatically default the shift position to N (Neutral) to prevent damage.

Key reminder chime

A chime will sound if you open the driver's side door while the power switch is in the ON or ACC position.

Always ensure the power switch is returned to the OFF position and remember to take your Intelligent Key with you when you exit your Nissan Leaf.

Light reminder chime

This chime serves as a reminder to conserve battery power; it sounds if the driver's door is opened while the light switch is left in the Parking light switch position or Headlight switch position position while the power switch is in the ACC, OFF, or LOCK mode.

Ensure that you manually switch off your lights before leaving the vehicle.

Parking brake reminder chime

If you attempt to drive your Nissan Leaf while the parking brake is still engaged, an audible chime will sound. The alert will silence as soon as the parking brake is fully released or the vehicle comes to a complete stop.

Power switch reminder chime

This chime sounds if the driver's door is opened while the power switch remains in the ON or "READY to drive" position. You must push the power switch to the OFF position to silence the alert.

12-volt battery charge warning chime

Should the 12-volt battery charge warning light illuminate, an audible chime will sound in conjunction with a warning message on the information display.

If this occurs, safely pull your Nissan Leaf over to the side of the road, engage the parking brake, and press the P (Park) switch. The warning light and chime will cease once the vehicle is securely in Park or the parking brake is applied. Please have the charging system professionally inspected by a NISSAN certified LEAF dealer as soon as possible.
