Nissan Leaf 2018-2025 (ZE1) Owner's Manual : NISSAN Vehicle Immobilizer System keys
You can only drive your vehicle using the authorized master keys which are officially registered to the advanced NISSAN Vehicle Immobilizer System components inside your vehicle. These high-security keys feature a specialized electronic transponder chip molded directly into the key head, which communicates unique encrypted codes to the car's security module during startup sequences.
The registered master key provides complete access across the vehicle, allowing you to manually operate all external and internal security locks.
To protect your valuable belongings when leaving your vehicle in a parking garage or with a valet service, always detach and give them the Intelligent Key transmitter unit only, keeping the removable mechanical key blade securely in your possession.
Never leave these security keys inside the vehicle cabin unattended.
Additional or replacement keys: If you already have at least one functioning key available, providing the original key number plate is not necessary when you need to order extra NISSAN Vehicle Immobilizer System keys. A factory-trained technician at your local NISSAN certified LEAF dealer can easily duplicate and encode your existing key. As many as four unique NISSAN Vehicle
Immobilizer System keys can be successfully synchronized with one vehicle simultaneously. You should bring all available NISSAN Vehicle Immobilizer System keys currently in your possession to the NISSAN certified LEAF dealer for the registration appointment. This is necessary because the electronic pairing process completely erases the local memory of all key codes previously registered into the NISSAN Vehicle Immobilizer System. Following this procedure, the vehicle's onboard security components will exclusively recognize and accept the specific keys coded during that precise registration session. Any virtual key accessories or remote smartphone access configurations (if so equipped) will also have to be fully reregistered at this time. Any key that is not physically handed over to the dealer for encoding during the registration process will automatically be unlinked and will no longer be able to start your vehicle.
CAUTION
Do not allow the immobilizer system key, which contains a delicate, moisture-sensitive electrical transponder chip, to come into direct contact with fresh water or salt water. Exposure to liquids could corrode the internal electronics and negatively affect the immobilizer system functionality.
