Nissan Leaf 2018-2025 (ZE1) Owner's Manual : System malfunction

If the Rear Automatic Braking (RAB) system encounters a technical fault, it will automatically deactivate to prevent unpredictable behavior. In such cases, the RAB warning light will illuminate on your instrument cluster, and the "Malfunction: See Owner's Manual" warning message will appear in the Nissan Leaf vehicle information display to alert you.

Action to take

Should the warning light appear, safely park your vehicle in a secure location, power down the EV system, and then restart it. If the warning light remains illuminated after the restart, the system requires professional diagnostics. We strongly recommend visiting a NISSAN certified LEAF dealer to have the RAB system thoroughly inspected and repaired by trained technicians.

Note: If the RAB system experiences a temporary operational limitation, the RAB warning light will blink to indicate that the feature is currently unavailable.

System maintenance

To ensure the reliable performance of the safety systems in your Nissan Leaf, please observe the following maintenance guidelines:

  • Always keep the parking sensors (1) free from dirt, mud, and debris.
  • If the parking sensors appear dirty, gently clean them with a soft, clean cloth. Exercise caution to avoid scratching or damaging the sensitive surface of the sensors.
  • Avoid subjecting the area surrounding the parking sensors (1) to strong impacts, such as bumps or collisions. Furthermore, do not attempt to remove or disassemble these sensors. If the sensors or the surrounding bumper area become deformed due to an accident or impact, have them professionally inspected. It is recommended that you visit a NISSAN certified LEAF dealer for this service.
  • Do not apply any stickers, decals, or protective films (including transparent ones) to the parking sensors (1) or the bumper area immediately surrounding them. Doing so can interfere with the sonar waves and result in a system malfunction or incorrect distance detection.
