Nissan Leaf 2018-2025 (ZE1) Owner's Manual : Charge port cap

Detailed view of the Nissan Leaf dual charging ports with the protective rubber caps exposed

When opening the internal charge port cap to connect a power supply, press the integrated release tab inward firmly and the spring-loaded protective cap will pop open automatically to grant access to the receptacle.

When you are finished servicing the vehicle, press the charge port cap firmly back down into its original position, and it will click and lock automatically to seal out external elements.

CAUTION

  • As soon as your charging session is finished, always ensure that you securely snap the individual charge port cap shut. If rainwater, moisture, or road dust manages to find its way inside the sensitive electrical contacts of the charge port, it can lead to severe corrosion or an electrical short circuit, causing a system malfunction.
  • Pay particular attention when utilizing the standard Trickle/Normal charging port, as the main exterior Nissan Leaf charge port lid can be physically closed and latched even if the underlying normal charge port cap has been left completely open.
  • Always verify that you have securely clicked the large quick charge port cap shut before pulling down the main outer charging lid. The quick charge port cap mechanism can easily be crushed or permanently damaged if it remains propped open when forced down by the heavy exterior charge port lid.

WARNING

  • Never attempt to unlock or adjust the position of the steering wheel column while the vehicle is actively in motion. Doing so can cause sudden, erratic steering changes, leading you to lose complete control of your vehicle and cause a severe accident.
  • Do not adjust the steering wheel position any closer to your chest than is absolutely necessary for safe, unhindered arm movement and driving comfort.

The driver's frontal air bag is engineered to inflate with immense explosive force in a collision. If you are riding unrestrained, leaning forward precariously, sitting sideways, or positioned out of the correct posture in any way, you face a significantly higher risk of severe injury or death during a crash. You can receive fatal impact injuries from the air bag module itself if your body is positioned directly up against it when the deployment sequence triggers.

To maximize the efficacy of the safety systems inside your Nissan Leaf, always sit completely back against the upright seatback cushion and maintain as much physical distance as practical from the steering wheel hub. Always ensure that all occupants are securely buckled using the factory seat belts.
