Nissan Leaf 2018-2025 (ZE1) Owner's Manual : Parking/parking on hills

WARNING

  • Avoid stopping or parking your Nissan Leaf over flammable materials such as dry grass, paper, or oily rags, as contact with hot vehicle components could ignite these materials and cause a fire.
  • Never exit or leave the vehicle unattended while it is in the READY to drive mode.
  • To ensure secure parking, you must always engage the parking brake firmly and ensure the gear selector is placed in the P (Park) position.

Failure to execute these steps correctly could cause the vehicle to move unexpectedly or roll away, leading to a serious accident.

  • Never leave children unattended inside the Nissan Leaf. Children may unknowingly manipulate switches or controls, causing the vehicle to move or activating systems in a way that could lead to dangerous accidents.
  • To prevent potential injury or fatal accidents from the unintended operation of your Nissan Leaf or its onboard systems, never leave children, individuals who require assistance, or pets alone in the vehicle. Furthermore, be aware that the interior temperature of a closed vehicle can rise to dangerous, life-threatening levels in a very short amount of time on a warm day, posing a severe risk to people and pets.

Diagram illustrating correct wheel positioning for parking the Nissan Leaf on various hill grades

1. Firmly engage the parking brake by pulling or pressing the control.

2. Push the P (Park) position switch located on the shift lever.

3. As a standard safety practice when parking on a slope, turn your wheels as illustrated below to prevent the vehicle from rolling into the street:

  • HEADED DOWNHILL WITH CURB: Turn the steering wheel toward the curb and move the Nissan Leaf forward slowly until the tire gently makes contact with the curb.
  • HEADED UPHILL WITH CURB: Turn the steering wheel away from the curb and back the vehicle up until the rear of the tire gently makes contact with the curb.
  • HEADED UPHILL OR DOWNHILL, NO CURB: Turn the steering wheel toward the side of the road. This ensures that if the vehicle begins to move, it will roll away from the center of the road.

4. Finally, place the power switch in the OFF position to secure the vehicle.
